The Department of agriculture of the Oryol state agricultural UNIVERSITY (at the time of its creation - the Oryol agricultural Institute) was established in 1977, when it became necessary to conduct classes in special disciplines for students of the first set. The first head of the Department was doctor of agricultural Sciences, Professor M. M. Kleev, who made a great contribution to its organization and formation. At that time, Professor Bodrov I. K., associate professors konobeev V. N., Sudarikov G. P., Glukhov N. I., Stepanova L. P., Chikulaev V. P., Krasikova A.V. and other teachers worked at the Department.

In 1988, the Department of agriculture was merged with the Department of soil science and Agrochemistry and was named the Department of General agriculture. To lead the Department became associate Professor Stepanova L. P. the Merger of the departments has significantly expanded the number of disciplines. Intensive work continued on the design of the Department itself, the classrooms, the development of scientific research, and the search for new ways and means of teaching.

From 1993 to 1998, the Department was headed by associate Professor N. K. Kruzhkov, and since 1998-Professor V. T. Lobkov. The teaching staff of the Department conducts classes in 16 main disciplines: agriculture, soil science, Agrochemistry, agrometeorology, melioration, fundamentals of scientific research, agricultural systems, land management, Geology with the basics of hydrology, agriculture with the basics of soil science, landscape science, biology with the basics of ecology, crop technology, etc. On average, a teacher has about a thousand hours of study load. For each discipline taught at the Department, educational and methodological complexes have been developed, including appropriate guidelines and instructions.
